Warm Up Drills

Ladder Circuit

Equipment: About 10 or 12 cones, and ideally 2 x agility ladders. If you
haven’t got ladders then a few more cones should do it, or if you’re indoors – draw a ladder on
the floor with chalk!!

Set Up: You’re basically making a track for the players to follow, which will take them through
a central set of cones, round a corner and then through your ladder. (see diagram).

Action: Players start in two lines and move in to central section keeping in time with their partner
throughout, where they perform the movement pattern as called by the coach. They move out
other side and round to ladders where they perform footwork drill as called by coach, then back
to start.

Coach calls variety of different movements through the central section to ensure that all muscle
groups are warmed up. E.g. high knees, heels to bums, side-skipping, forward lunges, high skips,
fast feet...

Variations

Inspired: Be inventive with what the players do e.g. facing each other through central section,
perform high-hand slaps whilst side-stepping, or low-hand slaps. Give each pair a ball which they
have to pass between them as many times as possible in central section. Try getting them to catch
the ball only righthanded, or only left-handed as they go through.
