Catching Basics

Just like everyone has heard many times before ‘Catches
Win Matches’, and the reason this saying has been around for
so long, is because it is the truth! No matter what level you are playing at, whether it’s for
your local under-11’s, or for England in the Ashes, every single catch is vital to the success
of your team.

Because they are so important, it is essential that players have practiced the skills of catching
as hard as any other skill in the game. The drills in this section aim to provide a variety of
different types of catching, so that whatever height, speed or trajectory the ball comes in a
game, each player has the ability to deal with it successfully.



Major Coaching Point – CATCHING:

There are many aspects which contribute to catching a ball, but one thing that is incredibly
important is to WATCH THE BALL! It’s amazing how many players take their eyes off the ball at
some point during its flight before it’s firmly lodged in their hands. Keep your eyes on the ball,
and to do this you have to get your head in a good position! Go on give it a go!
